a redeemer comes to Israel, from Los Angeles

This is interesting.

Bechadrei is reporting that the "Haredi philanthropist" Shlomo Rechnitz from Los Angeles has come to Israel to try to make peace in the Haredi parties.

Shlomo Rechnitz is a good guy, and has a heart of gold. I knew him and his twin brother many many years ago.

I don't know if he will be successful in his latest endeavor; peace among politicians - but I commend him for trying. He has a certain amount of influence, and he has already shown himself to be willing to put his money where his mouth is, so it is good that he continues to try to exert that influence for good causes.

Will he be successful? who knows, but at least he is trying.

It is interesting how the Rechnitz brothers have become so involved in the problems of the Haredi community recently. From their initiative to help solve the shidduch crisis, to their encouraging the wealthy community to donate more to yeshivas, to recently publicly donating to Benjamin Netanyahu's reelection campaign in order to encourage and facilitate a future [better] relationship with the Haredi parties, and now to muddying their feet in political fighting...

  1. The problem is NOT peace within the haredi parties. The problem is that the haredi parties supported suicide pacts labelled as 'peace.' Shas' support of the Rabin-Meretz gov't enabled Oslo to pass which brought us thousands of Jewish casualties (in exchange for large budgets to Shas institutions). In Jan 2005 United "Tora" Judiasm gave Sharon the Knesset majority he needed to expel 7,000 Jewish citizens from Gush Katif (in exchange for NIS 290 million). They remained in the gov't as shuls burned (not haredi shuls) and land was given to Hamas. This is NOT ahavat Yisrael - the haredi parties must agree in advance not to do this. It would be one thing if they had the erroneous believe that this would advance pikuach nefesh, but they are ONLY doing it for the MONEY -- they themselves admit it.
PS In principle I am in favor of exemptions for Yeshiva students. However, these "peace" deals inevitably lead to Jewish soldiers having to go back into the 'evacuated' territories with high casualties. I can't help but wonder if Haredi parents had to send THEIR kids to the army if they wouldn't think twice about agreeing to endanger Jewish soldiers (I would say shed the blood of Jewish soldiers) in exchange for Yeshiva budgets.

  2. Agree that the chareidim are in complete denial of true 'chareidus' - trembling before H'. They forget that being a servant of H' means that H', Torah, Yehudim & the Land of Israel are 'one'. They discard the Land and the simple Jew. Agree with them about army service because the army is not a true 'Jewish' army and has become of late a completely non-Jewish one. All the G-D fearing religious Jews must unite and respect each other's traditions because H' wants 'achdut' from His children. This will strengthen the true children of Israel which will hasten Moshiach's coming.
The ego of the different factions all wanting to be chief makes them forget the true meaning of Torah. Only united will they be able to win against the Erev Rav now in power.
